It finally happened, after at least a year or two of admiring punch needle, I gave in to the desire to try it out. I was hooked right away. I love the process and the final project that comes from punch needle! As I was teaching one of my weaving classes, and staring at the punch needle equipment/supplies I had an epiphany. Why not weave my own monk's cloth? (Monk's cloth is the type of fabric used in punch needle.) As soon as I got home, I looked up a weaving draft for monk's cloth and I found that there's…

I can’t think of a better summer project than a handspun, handwoven, and handstitched lavender sachet. All of the pieces are small and portable; you don’t need much yarn, and the finished product is one of those can’t-quit-squishing-it projects. I spun my yarn, some on my Sidekick and some on a spindle, while I traveled. I did my weaving (on a Zoom Loom ) and stitching in little bits of time while I waited for things: coals to heat up, my son to be finished with music or gymnastics, or a webinar to end. I could have swooped in and…

By Debbie Held If you own a Zoom Loom, then you’re probably already bitten by the hand-held, pin loom weaving bug. It’s astonishing how much satisfaction can be gained from weaving a 4” x 4” square. However, there is almost always the inevitable question of what to do with all of the squares that so rapidly accrue. Sure, they can be seamed together to create a host of larger projects, but this type of finishing work can be too much for some crafters. What if, instead, we were to up the ante on the front end by making the…

Earlier this year, We e-mailed the team at Brooklyn Tweed to see if they wanted to participate in one of our collaborations for 2016. I was thrilled when I heard that Jared Flood, Founder and Creative Director of Brooklyn Tweed, wanted to see what we could do. Not only were they game for a collaboration, they mentioned that they were releasing a new yarn in the fall that would be ideal for weaving. Be still my beating heart. I have been following Brooklyn Tweed since before they carried yarn, when they were primarily a knitting pattern powerhouse, so…

Pinning is a term many might know if they grew up in the 1950's, but has gone out of fashion in the modern era. When a couple decided to commit to each other before getting engaged, the guy would give his girlfriend his fraternity or club pin. This now meant the couple was "going steady" and they wouldn't date anyone else.Though this tradition has since disappeared, you can still express your love for someone with Jane Patrick's Zoom Loom Heart Pin. -Benjamin Zoom Loom Heart Pin Tap your inner multi-media crafter to create this heart pin for yourself or a special…

Designed and woven by Judy Pagels Sunlight in the early morning and pre-dusk is especially magical to me. I’m enchanted by the intensity of the light and how it plays off the greenery of the trees and plants at these times. This visual variety of shades and contrasts of light and dark inspired a botanical panel that will remind me of the lush greens of summer all year long. I wanted to try discharge dyeing again for my panel, since I appreciate the additional transformation a bleaching process offers to a piece. Years back, my attempt on a small project…
