2020 Tools for Schools Grant Recipients

2020 Tools for Schools Grant Recipients

This year we received 39 applications for our Tools for Schools Grant, from which we selected 2 winners. It was an incredible group of applicants. We were so pleased to see all of the interest and excitement for education in the textile arts.

Washington Elementary School
North Dakota

Elementary teachers Emma and Lynette work together to help teachers provide art instruction in their district schools. As art instruction is no longer a state requirement at the elementary level, they apply for grants, invite guest artists, and host regular events to help teachers plan art lessons. Looms received via the Tools for Schools grant will facilitate weaving instruction. Several rural schools can now offer weaving courses and students will have the opportunity to experience weaving.

The Shaker Museum at Mount Lebanon
New York

The Shaker Museum teaches about the value of working with one’s hands and enjoying the camaraderie of communal effort. Their ongoing Connect, Create, Contribute campaign brings community members together to learn, create and make a difference. The looms they receive through the Tools for Schools Grant will bring weaving to their programming and expand their reach.
