Where do I find the serial number on my spinning wheel and what does it mean?

Each Schacht-Reeves wheel has a unique sequential number. It's found on the brass nameplate on the base.

For our other spinning wheels, the serial number indicates the date we built the wheel. These numbers are stamped into the wood.

Matchless: Look at the wheel from the back, where the mother-of-all comes through the upper leg. The serial number is stamped on the end of the mother-of-all. This number indicates date of assembly (mmddyy) and the sequence number for wheels built that day. Single treadle wheels only have a number; on double treadle wheels, the number begins DT.

  • Example: 102307 3 = a single treadle wheel built on October 23, 2007, the third wheel built that day.
  • Example: DT102407 2 = a double treadle wheel built on October 24, 2007, the second wheel built that day.
