Sidekick Update

You may have heard that we’ve had a bit of a delay on shipping the Sidekick. We found that the drive band pulleys are not performing as we want with the larger whorls. Therefore we need a little time to find a solution that will make the Sidekick the best that it can be. (Note: the drive-band pulley that holds the drive band in place. We realize that “pulley” and “whorl” are used interchangeably in the spinning vernacular, but at Schacht we use the term “whorl” to refer to the mechanism that changes the wheel’s ratios.)

We know that this is disappointing, but we felt it was important to delay a couple of weeks to make sure we have it right. I’ll keep you posted.

In the meantime, you can get to know the Sidekick better through our new videos, just posted on our website. Go to and click on videos to find: Meet the Sidekick (also posted on YouTube), Know Your Sidekick, and The Sidekick—Functional Design. Perhaps these will keep you entertained until your new Sidekick arrives…!
