How do I fix dents, scuffs, or scratches in the wood of my Schacht product?

This method will work on all Schacht wood products, whether they're made of plywood or solid wood, oiled or unoiled. There's just one exception: for lacquered boat shuttles, you need to remove the lacquer first.

Do not use this method on plastic or any material that isn't wood.

You will need

  • an iron
  • a damp cloth
  • fine grit sandpaper

DO NOT SAND the dented, scuffed, or scratched area yet.

  1. Allow the iron to heat on the linen setting.
  2. Place the damp cloth over the dent/scuff/scratch, right on the wood.
  3. Set the hot iron on the cloth and let it rest for a few seconds.
  4. Check to see if the dent/scuff/scratch is still visible. If it has not, repeat Step 3 until the wood "pulls up" and sits just above the wood's surface. The process takes longer for oiled wood than for unoiled wood.
  5. Lightly sand down the repaired area.
