We're excited to announce the 2025 recipients of the Schacht Tools for Schools Grant. This annual grant enables schools and non-profit organizations to acquire Schacht equipment to begin or expand a spinning and/or weaving program.
The Education Partnership
The Education Partnership aids schools from Pre-K to high school in southwestern PA, providing supplies and resources. Their STEAM Lending Library allows educators to borrow equipment for their curriculum. They also offer professional development to assist teachers with the new materials. This year, they will receive Lilli looms to enhance their Lending Library's offerings.
Rutgers University
At Rutgers University, the RAGE Lab (Race and Gender Equity Lab) investigates research questions related to the intellectual production and social thriving of Black women and girls. The lab will now include Cricket and inkle looms in their weaving workshops, led by local weavers. These tools will help students understand the relationship between textiles and concepts such as algorithmic and computational thinking, with related research about women's roles in coding, algorithmic crafting, and the interplay of technology and fibers.
757 Creative Reuse Center
The 757 Creative Reuse Center is a community-oriented storefront and classroom that offers accessible and affordable arts and crafts supplies. It promotes sustainability by collecting reusable materials from the local community, thus decreasing landfill waste. Its art classroom is a space for workshops and a makerspace for the community. The Center’s mission is to support artists from all walks of life. The inclusion of drop spindles and Lilli looms will support the growth of their sustainable art classes.
