Zoom Loom Yarn Explorations 2013

Classic Elite Yarns

Classic Elite Yarns

Below, Pirouette from Classic Elite Yarns gave us a chance to see how a lace weight yarn weaves up on the Zoom Loom. Pirouette is a lovely kid mohair/bamboo/nylon blend yarn and we tried single strands, doubled and tripled. Even though this yarn is somewhat fine, because the mohair is fuzzy, the squares even when woven with a single strand hold together quite well. Below, from the bottom counter clockwise: A square of a single strand of Blue Jay (think lightweight scarf or shawl); a strand of Black and a strand of Pearl Gray are used together for a heavier weight fabric with a mottled effect; three strands, one each of Blue Jay, Pearl Gray, and Alizarin create colors that come and go in the fabric depending on how the yarns twist in the web.

Below: Also from Classic Elite Yarns, Sanibel, a cotton/viscose blend yarn with matte and shiny areas has a lot of drape and would make a lovely scarf or top. The squares below illustrate how the shiny areas show against the matte areas, as well as the patterns that naturally occur.
