Enter our spinning and weaving contest! Winners will be announced at our Festival on October 4, 2025. You do not need to be present to win.

what to make

Entries must be made on a Schacht or Louët loom or spinning wheel, completed in the past year.

Spinning guidelines: Spin at least a 4-ounce skein of your choosing, noting the materials used and the yarn's intended use.

Weaving guidelines: Design and weave an original* towel that is created with a purpose—it may be a fluffy, absorbent bath towel, or a fine linen dish towel. Materials and design should be appropriate for the intended use.

*Original means you have designed the project or written the content yourself. By submitting, you attest that no part of the content has been published elsewhere. You can use a weaving draft from any source but you must credit the source.

Prizes

$200 will be given to winners of the novice and expert categories for spinning and weaving.
Additional $50 gift cards will be awarded at the judges discretion.

Dates to Remember

September 22, 2025 - Entries must be received at Schacht by 4 pm on this date. You can mail your entry or drop it off.

October 4, 2025 - Winners announced, in novice and expert levels, for spinning and weaving categories. You do not need to be present to win—though we'd love to see you at the party!

October 7–10, 2025 - Entries on display in the Schacht showroom.

October 13–16, 2025 - Schacht will mail entries back to contestants. Local contestants can pick up their entries if they prefer.

How to Enter

Pay the entry fee here.
Make your entries. You can submit up to 4 items—2 each in spinning and weaving categories.
We would love to see photos of you creating your entry on your Schacht or Louët product. Send us photos at submissions@schachtspindle.com.
Fill out the Contestant Information form. There are two entry levels, novice for people with 2 or fewer years experience and expert for people with more than 2 years experience. Declare a value for your entry(ies) up to $500 for insurance. Make sure you sign the form.
Fill out an Entry Tag for each entry.
Ship your entries to Schacht, or drop them off. Use a single reusable container. We must receive all entries by 4:00 pm on September 22, 2025.

The Fine Print

All items will be handled with utmost care to protect and safeguard them. However, we want you to know that items can be damaged or lost in shipping or when on exhibit through no fault of the exhibition hosts. You must sign and send a waiver with your contest entry(ies).

Delivery of Entries: Please ship items in a reusable container to Schacht Spindle Company, Inc, 6101 Ben Place, Boulder, CO 80301 USA, phone: 303-442-3212. Mark each entry with a completed entry tag.

Non-Acceptance: The Hosts retain the right to disqualify any work from the exhibit that is unacceptable due to quality of the item or not meeting contest guidelines. (For example, you submit a scarf instead of a towel.)

Return of Work: We will return all pieces to the address provided via UPS or USPS at the end of the show. All items will be insured based on the figures provided by the contestant on the entry form, up to $500 value.

Entry Fee: $20 for first entry and $5 for each additional entry (maximum $35) to cover return postage and handling.

Employees of Schacht, Louët, and Venne are not eligible to win. Family members of these employees are not eligible to win.
