The Flatiron knob screws into a brass insert in the mother-of-all (MOA). The knob for Ladybug, Matchless, and Sidekick wheels has a small screw with washers, a small metal shaft, a metal collar, and a black plastic knob.  On Matchless and Ladybug wheels, this part installs on the mother-of-all (MOA). On Sidekick wheels, this part installs on the right wheel side. On all wheels, the plastic knob sits on the right.

For Ladybug wheels with the old (flat) MOA, you'll need this peg.

Matchless wheels with the old (flat) MOA had a Scotch tension rod that is no longer available.

If you need a peg for the Schacht-Reeves, please contact us.

How to Install

For Flatiron wheels: Remove the spring and string from the old knob. Use a 3/8" wrench to remove the old knob, then to tighten the new knob into the insert. Reinstall the spring and string, or install a new spring and string, following instructions in the Flatiron assembly manual.

For Ladybug and Matchless wheels:

  1. Untie or cut off the knot holding the scotch tension spring and string to the shaft, inside the MOA. Completely remove the string from the hole in the shaft.
  2. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw in the old plastic knob. Remove the plastic knob from the right side of the MOA.
  3. If you don't need to replace the shaft, hold it in place from the left with a nail or unbent paper clip. If you are replacing the shaft, tilt the wheel to the left until the old shaft falls out.
  4. Prepare the new knob by removing the small screw and washers holding the black plastic knob, shaft, and mounting ring together. In the unlikely event that the mounting ring on your wheel needs to be replaced, contact Customer Service. You can discard any parts you do not need to replace.
  5. If necessary, insert the new shaft into the left side of the MOA. Hold it in place with a nail or unbent paper clip.
  6. Insert the small screw through the washers, then through the black plastic knob. Set these parts in place on the right side of the MOA. Fully tighten the screw into the shaft.
  7. Reinstall the spring and string, or install a new spring and string as described in your wheel's assembly manual.

For Sidekick wheels:

  1. Prepare the new knob by removing the small screw and washers holding the black plastic knob, shaft, and mounting ring together. You will only need the screw, washers, and black plastic knob; discard the remaining parts. Insert the small screw through the washers, then through the black plastic knob.
  2. Untie or cut off the knot holding the scotch tension spring and string to the shaft. Completely remove the string from the hole in the shaft.
  3. Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw in the old plastic knob. Remove the plastic knob from the right wheel side.
  4. From inside the wheel, hold the old shaft in place so you can reinstall it. In the unlikely event that you need to replace this shaft, contact Customer Service for a replacement.
  5. Set the new knob, screw, and washers in place on the right side of the wheel. Fully tighten the screw into the shaft.
  6. Reinstall the spring and string, or install a new spring and string as described in your wheel's assembly manual.
