Zoom Loom Modular Placemat
By Denise Renee Grace
This project woven of cotton yarn familiarizes you with the difference between weaving a wool yarn with stretch and a cotton yarn with no stretch. The key to success is to wind the layers very loosely—looser than you think wise. The looser winding technique compensates for the lack of stretch in the cotton yarn.
The finished placemat measures 11.5" wide x 15" long.
Variations: Create a set of mats, each with a different pattern. Weave more squares to make a table runner.
What You'll Need
-
Classic Elite Seedling, 1 skein each of Cool Olive, Deep Saffron, and Persian Rose. (You can make a set of placemats with this much yarn.)
-
Zoom Loom
Directions
Weave 12 squares—6 of Persian Rose, 3 of Deep Saffron, and 3 of Cool Olive. Wind your loom very loosely and weave as usual. Sew in all tails.
Sew the squares together in the pattern shown above, or create your own pattern.
Hand wash the mat in warm water and a bit of soap, agitating to lightly full. Rinse and lay flat to dry. Steam press.
