How has the Standard Floor Loom changed?

Schacht introduced its Standard Floor Loom at Convergence in 1978—our first floor loom ever! Its weaving widths, wood, castle style, shaft options, and treadle options have changed since then. Here's how it changed (as best we know now, based on surviving company records):

YEAR CHANGES
1978 introduced 4-shaft, 36" and 42" weaving widths, probably 6 treadles, low castle, maple
1980 introduced 8-shaft and 4 Now-4 Later (an 8-shaft loom shipped with space for 4 more shafts) options, probably 10 treadles, low castle, maple
1983 loom with 45" weaving width replaces 42" (officially named 46" Standard Floor Loom)
1987 introduced high castle option for both weaving widths
1996 added cherry and oak options; oak was discontinued in 1998
2001 discontinued 4-shaft looms in both widths
4 Now-4 Later available with 6 treadles or 10 treadles
2018 discontinued 10-treadle option
wider loom renamed 45" (though the loom itself did not change)
2020 discontinued low castle option
cherry looms changed to seasonal availability

You can always find the current options and the assembly manuals on the product page.
