We're excited to announce the 2026 recipients of the Schacht Tools for Schools Grant. This annual grant enables schools and non-profit organizations to acquire Schacht equipment to begin or expand a spinning and/or weaving program.
Taos Historic Museums
Taos Historic Museums is an organization that promotes the “history, heritage, and cultural arts of Northern New Mexico through education and preservation.” With inkle looms and card weaving cards, they will teach belt weaving techniques and teach Pueblo youth how to weave traditional regalia. They also will include the looms in workshops, afterschool programs, and their lending library.
Mica Mountain High School
Mica Mountain High School in Vail, Arizona, is now able to have a Contemporary Crafts Class where students will be introduced to “processes and techniques that have greatly been taken over by industrial automation.” As a part of the class, students will create a Zoom Loom stuffed animal. The Art Club at the school will also create felted coasters.

Technocopia
Technocopia in Worcester, Massachusetts, is a shared workspace that strives to “nurture community by providing tools, instruction, and workspaces to create.” They will be creating a project called “Table for All” where they will “design a textile that will serve as a table runner for a symbolic dining surface that welcomes all into your community.” They will be adding Cricket looms to their studio to aid in this development.

Art in the Park
Art in the Park “was founded to provide accessible community-directed art and cultural programming in and around Northeast Los Angeles.” Their space is in a popular public park. They will host programs for the entire community from youth to seniors, which will culminate in an exhibition titled “Woven Together.” With the addition of Hi-Lo Drop Spindles, School Looms, and Plastic Beaters, they will get their community up and weaving!

California State Grange Foundation
California State Grange Foundation is an organization that supports over 120 Community Granges in California. Today “the Grange is a community organization where traditions and tangible skills are still passed down through the generations.” Their project entitled “Common Threads” will allow members from around the state to learn and teach in their Community Grange the tangible skill of spinning. With Hi-Lo Drop Spindles and Carders they will be able to begin the program of teaching spinning!
