Ratchet dogs and ratchet gears always go together on the Cricket Loom, Flip Loom, Table Loom, and Arras Beam Kit.

  • 10" and 15" Cricket Looms have two ratchet dogs—one for the cloth beam and one for the warp beam.
  • 15" and 20" Flip Looms have two ratchet dogs—one for the cloth beam and one for the warp beam.
  • 25" and 30" Flip Looms have four ratchet dogs—two for the cloth beam and two for the warp beam.
  • Table Looms have two ratchet dogs—one for the cloth beam and one for the warp beam.
  • Arras Beam Kits have four ratchet dogs—two for the cloth beam and two for the warp beam.

How to install

Installation for Cricket and Flip:  You will need a #2 Phillips screwdriver, a hammer, and a nail set to install the new gear. You may need additional tools to remove the old gear.

  1. For all Flip looms and newer Cricket looms with the ratchet gear on the outer side of the loom, use the screwdriver to unscrew the dowel handle from the warp/cloth beam. For old Cricket looms with the ratchet gear inside the loom, disassemble the loom so you can work on the warp/cloth beam.
  2. Remove the old ratchet gear and pin. Use a hammer and chisel or flat (slotted) screwdriver to break off the gear and pliers to pull out the pin.
  3. Slide the new gear into place on the warp/cloth beam, aligning the hole in the gear with the hole in the beam.
  4. Using a hammer and nail set, tap the pin into the hole. The pin needs to sit below the level of the gear teeth so the ratchet dog does not catch on it.
  5. For newer looms, reattach the dowel handle. For old Cricket looms, reassemble the loom.

Installation for Arras Beam Kit: You will need a #2 Phillips screwdriver, a hammer, and a nail set to install the new gear. You may need additional tools to remove the old gear.

  1. On the side of the gear you're replacing, unscrew the dowel handle from the warp/cloth beam. Disassemble the base or warp beam riser from that side of the loom, so that you can remove the cloth beam or warp beam. 
  2. Remove the old ratchet gear and pin. Use a hammer and chisel or flat (slotted) screwdriver to break off the gear and pliers to pull out the pin.
  3. Slide the new gear into place on the warp/cloth beam, aligning the hole in the gear with the hole in the beam.
  4. Using a hammer and nail set, tap the pin into the hole. The pin needs to sit below the level of the gear teeth so the ratchet dog does not catch on it.
  5. Reattach the base or warp beam riser to the loom. Reattach the dowel handle.
