You'll need a Phillips screwdriver and a 7/16" or adjustable wrench.
- Set the wheel on a table with its back facing you. Insert the screwdriver through the old footman connector, just to hold it steady. From underneath the treadle, use the wrench to remove the hex bolt, two flat washers, and split lock washer connecting the treadle to the footman connector. Save these parts.
- Now that the bottom of the footman is free, you can unscrew the old footman connector from the footman.
- Attach the new footman connector to the bottom of the footman.
- Reattach the hex bolt: place the split lock washer and one flat washer on its shaft. From underneath the treadle, insert the hex bolt through the hole at the back of the treadle. Add the remaining flat washer to the hex bolt shaft. Screw the new footman connector to the hex bolt shaft, tightening by hand.
- Finish tightening the hex bolt: hold the connector still by inserting the screwdriver through it, then use the wrench to fully attach the hex bolt.
- If necessary, repeat on the other treadle.
You can see diagrams for most of these steps in the assembly manual for the Ladybug wheel, available on this website.
